Has anyone uses Panasonic AG-HVX200 ??? Cause I was planning on getting it but I haven't had feedback from anyone using it on narrative story telling. I wanted to know how it is with editing and "film look" and any other things anyone has to say about it

I've used one very briefly. The quality and features are incredible, but the user interface is retarded. Once you learn the idiotic menus and controls, you'll be fine, and it's got a great image Smile

It's a great camera. It's not really economical at this point (the P2 cards are expensive and only hold a few minutes of uncompressed DVCPRO HD), but for narrative stuff that shouldn't really be a problem.

But don't get the camera if you're going to end up shooting on tape all the time. It's not worth it - save yourself some money and get the DVX100.

I'm about to shoot a 20-minute film on it. We've got a workflow and protocol in place to transfer footage during setup time, and we've got somone backing it up to two DVDs and a RAID drive on set. It's so frightening having something exist only digitally.

Hey TitaniumDoughnut, you're at NYU right? What cameras do they provide?

Oh, it varies depending on the class.

For Digital Frame and Sequence (Freshman) it's old 35mm still cameras. For Sight & Sound Film (sophomore year) it's an Arriflex 16mm. It really depends on the class. They've got some of everything, but you'll have to wait until you need it to sign it out for a class. There will always be "that guy" who's got a sweet HD camera you can borrow though.

Sounds good,
We used Arriflex 16mm at the NYFA, so hopefully I'll remember my way around those.
Thanks

I used this camera when I went to NYFA. The camera is exceptional and really worth themoney for it. But I would invest in buying the P2 card just because it is 'true HD'. Besides, if you figure out the system on the darn thing, you can have 35mm quality films.

Well, I certainly wouldn't buy an HVX now. The predecessor to the DVX is coming out in September and a couple other major cameras are coming out this year.

The HVX is now old..granted, a fantastic camera - its just getting to the point where it may not be a wise decision to purchase it at this time.
