$14000? Are you sure those aren't broadcasting cameras?

yes they are but we are also allowed to shoot our movies with them. are there any advantages to using the DVC instead of just DV?

Here is some other Forum's Discussion. From what I gather, they have about the same quality image but DVCpro is more reliable, less dropped frames, and you can record over it more. This Site is a little more readable

I would go for the DVC, however if you are getting it cut at a post house, less post houses have full facilites for DVC than for DVCAM.

DVC and DVCam are used in broadcasting because they are reliable and exact, unlike miniDV (which is why it's considered a consumer brand).

What are you going to distribute the movie on? and are you going to anther format? that's the only reason to worry about one or the other, but DVC tapes are better becasue they run at a slower speed and are thicker than miniDV, meaning they last longer

ya i really dont think im going to "distribute" my films and no im probably not going to change to another format. the only thing i wondered about was if the image quality was better and would it make a difference.

I shot both of my projects with a DVC-Pro last quarter and it did look really crisp. But depending on what look your going for DVC can look extremely video, good video but video. Unless your shooting on the DVC-PRO 50 or HD which are sweet. I own an Xl1s and I would argue it looks more like film than the DVC-Pro but if you have acess to it the DVC go with it. It will look alot better on your reel when you have footage shot with professional equipment rather than prosumer.
