I was wondering what kind of light would be effective in a night time gang fight. It will be 46 people fighting in a parking lot and I want sort of a blue hue on them, you know? But I can't think of a lighting solution, if anyone can help, It'd be appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm not sure of your editing capabilities Eek, or what software you are using (if any) but what I would highly suggest is shooting the scene at dusk (avoiding sky shots) then darkening the picture in post. After doing this, you can also add the blue tint you were talking about Big Grin. Thats the cheapest and easiest meathod i've found. It hasn't failed me once. Depending on how advanced your editing system is, you may also (with some planning) be able to key out the sky in post and add stars and what have you. I did this in my latest film The Underground (www.6mmfilms.cjb.net) and it worked beutifully. (I'm posting the film of course... it's coming soon!! Wink)

i'm using Premiere...but I don't care abuot stars...
I would reallyl ike to see how you did it, because filming at night could be a bitch, I think.

And I'm going to need one shot with the moon, so I could always just add it...

I just finished my short "Influence" and we had almost all night shoots. We used a 1000watt and 500watt construction light with blue gels to light for night. After throwing in a few shots of the moon, tinted with a little blue in the mid-tones, the final product looks very natural. You can buy the lights at almost every hardware store and deals are constant. So check it out!

if it's a gang fight in a parking lot find a lot that already has some good ambient light from street lights etc. then use the headlights of gangmembers cars. they would need some practical light in reality to see who they are fightig anyway.....thats probably what they would do it....

Yeah...nice point. Try to use natural light as much as you can and then manipulate it to fit your own style or goal.

You could always fly an 18K with 1/2 CTB up on a condor!

Of course, if you're budget doesn't permit that setup I would concur with Fantazmagoric. Motivate with car headlights or streetlamps and have a roaming fill to taste.
