Actually, believe it or not, I think about %70 of dialogue in feature films are done in postproduction. Because in theatres, your able to tell even the slightest bg noise and hiss. But yeah, I know that even the big movies do it wrong. Either it sounds like a different mike, or if the way they say it makes it sound like it was done VO. They do that alot especially when an actor is saying a small line offscreen.

Good deeal! Where was it that you went? Anyway, screw the sound. Light the heck out of it, and ADR it later. I would record some stuff on set. You could shut down the generator and have the actresses run around screaming, record feet running through leaves, heavy breathing, ect. Try and get as much of that as possible. Also, be sure to get a good mintute of "room tone" or in this case, outdoor ambient sound, Just record for a full minute on location. Make everyone stand still. No talking or moving, but its better to do it with everyone there. This will make a good consistent sound bed for you to lay down, and add everything else on top of. For the record you should do this anyway, on everything. its a good way to keep the sound in a scene consistent. Finally, record all your little sounds after shooting. This way you have a good idea of what you really need, and if people are screaming (aka: disturbing anyone) your in and out. Good luck. I look forward to the stills.

Gah, didnt come out nearly as good as I hoped. Right now im wondering wheter its worth editing. Whats worse is that it would have been much better if I hadnt played a character. I really wanted to be in a short that I had done all this preperation for and my not being cameraman ****ed up the whole thing. I swear to god, people just shouldnt ever ****ing use digital zoom combined with poor camera angles, the cinematography is HORRIBLE. Im so mad that a relativley good idea got mucked up by Poor Cameramen. At least in the next short that my Friend is directing Ill get sole control over Cameras and lighting.

I just talked to everyone I knew who is in the construction/labour area of work and asked if they had one. And a bunch of em did , and I found one that was available for the weekend , as long as I paid for the gas. I did this as soon as I found out that CT inverters couldn't help me.

Thanks for the heads up on sound tizzy, I got tons of watts happening so I am pretty excited.

I just re filmed the intro/first scene of my movie, and so glad I did. I fixed tons of plot holes and ultimately, made the movie look much more professional.

It is the scurge of the in experienced camera operator. It can be a very effective tool when used properly, but those occassions rarley arrise.
Sorry to hear of your misfourtune. Perhaps it is worth re shooting. Either way, I would say do your best to edit togthere what you have, just to see what works and what does not. Where is Apex anyway? I dotn know if you knew, but i have recently relocated to Charlotte N.C., so the potential of working on something is there. Just hang tight, and good luck.

Actually Tizzy I told several of my friends about you and some of them thought it was quite cool that someone from studentfilms had a short shown on T.V. (Several of my friends are avid SF Visitors now). And ironically one of my friends who directs the shorts with me asked me to ask you if perhaps we could visit the scene of one of your short films sometimes and just watch you guys go about your business and perhaps help out with any heavy labour lol. Weve visited some sets before and it really does help alot in terms of knowledge. Apex is right next to Raleigh but my Zip Code just changed so now Im technically in Cary.

And the set we visited was for WRAL 5 News, They have some kickass equipment included 6-$1 Million dollar cameras that are entirely robotic Smile

The daily news lol. Apparently the director is really into new technology. We also go to look at the robotic cameras. Basically they sync together so that all those spiffy camera shots you see each news program are much simpler since the "robots" Move around on the floor to get a better shot. There huge too lol. And we got to check out the Fox "Studio" there and they literally had 4 100x100 foot rooms being UNUSED. I was thinking to myself this is a huge waste of space.

That would have been awesome to see, I got to work for TSN one time as a cameraman assistant.
We had to transport their huge broadcast camera's with 15 thousand dollar lenses, on golf carts.
Needless to say we were very careless.

Yah, it was pretty sweet. And the main anchor for the morning news Bill Leslie led us around. His son is one of our friends but it was still ausome of him to spend literaly 1/2 his work catering for us, he was really cool about it all.
