Soooo, i'm not sure what you guys are talking about, but ...

I DESPERATELY need a light meter. I'm making an indipendent film with some friends of mine and we're using an XL2, but I still don't have a light meter.

I looked into the Sekonic L758DR, but it's hella expensive ($499!).

I accept that it may just be a really expensive piece of equipment and I won't be able to get anything good for much cheaper . . . but before I condemn my bank account for the next few months I'd like some opinions.

Do you guys know much about light meters? What would be a good one?

Thanks for reading this. I hope you can save me from the Satanic Sekonic!

If your shooting on video i wouldnt even bother with a light meter.

Expose using the monitor, it would be a better investment getting a waveform monitor and using it as your meter.

If you do want one, the sekonic dual meters are nice, the 558cine was a good model. The minolta meters out there are really simple, and really nice, but when shooting video i cant see much use.

Cheers,
Matt

Yes. You really only need a light meter if you're shooting film.
