I’m a working videographer always looking to improve my work.
I was wondering if anyone has used and/or could recommend a video stabilizing software. And if so, does the footage put through the software looses any quality?
And about Home-Built Steadycams, I’ve done some research on the web and found quite a few designs that look promising, but so far.. the design below looks pretty good.
I’m personally inclining towards using a Steadycam, since obviously having smooth footage makes editing easier, but them again I haven’t try the video stabilizing software.
So, if you know or have heard of any better options, I’d love to hear them.
If you want decent stabilizing software, you'll want to go with Adobe After Effects. I picked up a legit copy from eBay for $25.
If you want to make one yourself, it's quite easy. With homemade stabilizers, its not so much about balancing as it is about adding weight to a camera.
I went and got a couple of iron bars and a weight. I connected the bars to make a sideways T shape [B]|-[/B , just like that. The camera attached to the top with a threaded bolt, with the shorter side bar being the grip, and on the bottom was a weight - like those on dumbbells. The weight acted to counter the camera, and running shots are so much more smooth. It was easy to put together (only about 10 pieces max), and is great for the cheap price! About $20.
