sorry about this. its beginning to get riduculous, three threads in a row. but this one should be the final one for sure.
ok, i've narrowed it down to 3 cameras; canon gl2, sony vx2100, and panasonic dvx100 (not 100a). the gl2 vs vx2100 i've read alot about, but my findings are so mixed that its like the balance out lol. anyways, i guess i should tell you guys what i'll be shooting to help with the decision.
i'll be shooting alot of short films, as well as flips (kinda like gymnastics). those will be my main two things to shoot. its really a bad combination lol, cinematic type stuff and sports. anyways, any help you guys can give will be much appreciated = ]. thanks for your time.

Hey, The GL2 vs. the VX2100. They can't really be compared, the sony is a good amount more expensive than the GL2, both sony and Canon have a good name behind them with camcorders aswell. I found the only MAIN diff. between the two were that the VX2100 featured larger CCD's and lower lux rating, along with a zoom dial along with the focus dial, where the GL2 only has the focus dial. The VX2100 and GL2 are actually the same 2 I narrowed my choice down to a month ago. I chose the GL2 for the reasons, I personally trust Canon more, i didn't plan on shooting low lux like the sony features (the GL2 had a good enough lux rating), the sony has larger CCD's but vs. the GL2 the GL2's price is just right! where the VX2100 is a little over what I wanted to spend.... ..Until I end up getting my professional camera that is... As for the Panasonic, I dont follow them very much at all, they have a trusted name in their film camera line, but I dont know about their digital camcorder line.

well, the main things that make me not want to go for the gl2 is the door jam that the canon line has (300$ fix = \) and the smaller CCDs. Money isnt really a big issue. as long as its ~2000. i dont really want to go much above 2000, and i plan to buy used, unless i go for the gl2.
but i've also heard that the canon makes a mor "film like" picture than the vx2100 which makes a more lifelike picture. and the audio on the canon is supposed to be quite a bit better as well. tuff choice hahah. unfortunatly, neither of them have XLR ports like the dvx100 lol. or 24p for that matter.

You could go XL1... that's the camera I like. I got mine for 2000.00 off ebay. Go with ElectronixMax. The DVX100 is a great camera from what I've seen, I've never used it. Also, in this post you didn't mention the PD-150 (I don't think). That's a pretty good camera as well. I prefer the XL1 because it's easy to change lenses (is that even a word?). the Canon cameras seem to me to shoot a more orange tone than say the PD-150 or DVX100. but you can color correct for that. I love them woo yay Canon XL1 (or XL1 or XL HD)... Dreamy.
oh man, i didnt even think about the XL line. hahah, i just ran a quick search on ebay and the first good buy it now price i found was electronixMax = ].
ok, so one more camera thrown into the fray, the Canon XL1s which i guess makes the gl2 kinda pointless to have in here. its a bit over what i was hoping to pay, but if its worth that extra 300-400 dollars, i'd gladly pay it = ].
oh, and also, i didnt look at the p150 for the same reason that im reluctant about getting the dvx100, its a bit older and older makes me scared to buy it lol. i figured that the vx2100 would surpass it, maybe i was wrong = \.
thanks for all the feedback so far guys, this is great.
edit: oh man, im looking at some reviews for the XL1s. its looks GREAT! the ONLY problem i see with it is that it doesnt have built in XLR ports, but thats really no problem at all, especially because the adapter for it contains 4 ports hahah. i think we have a winner = ].

I still have a suspicion that you will eventually get the GL2. Just for a lil more info for you..the GL2 does have an adapter for XLR connections. Also, keep in mind, online stores have cheap products, but you aren't buying warranty with it, you have to buy that separate..keep that in mind.
