quote: Please elaborate how Don Cheadle is underrated. He was great in Hotel Rwanda, and received plenty of recognition. Again, you (in the general sense) don't seem to understand what "underrated" means. It specifically means an actor who is viewed as less capable than they actually are, NOT an actor who people largely recognize as skilled but is not on the A-list. Don Cheadle, Buscemi, etc. don't fall into the category of "underrated." Maybe "underrecognized," but that's different.
We're not in some restrictive forum here, we can at least interpret what the question was freely, even if "some" of us think we are interpreting it wrong, some ppl obviously don't care what underated is "supposed" to mean, so let them think freely

Hey, it's a free forum. I can think what I want and besides, I made the question so technically, this thread is about my interpretation of the word. And underrated to me means that the actor has recieved little recognition for his/her life's work. Don Cheadle was good in Hotel Rwanda but overall, his entire collection of work has been unnoted and marked by lack of critical acclaim. He is a great actor and one would think that he would get more praise than such actors as Ben Affleck who stars in lots of high budget POS films. Again, this is my definition of the word. If you want to argue semantics be my guest by in reality, is it worth it? No. So stop, just put your opinion down, make it known and stop arguing a pointless grammatical war in a film forum.

Oh yeah, definitely. She also had a role in the third Godfather film. Oh, btw, her name is Sophia Coppola. quote: Originally posted by CameraHead: He is a great actor and one would think that he would get more praise than such actors as Ben Affleck who stars in lots of high budget POS films.
He does. I've never heard anyone praise Ben Affleck except for 14 year-old girls.

I'm with shookster here: see Ben Affleck might get a ton of exposure but he really hasn't garnered or received any critical acclaim since Good Will Hunting days. If you're saying that Don Cheandle should get more recognition from the general population or (worse) more exposure I think too populist. The people want Ben Affleck (or they're told they do)so let them have him - they'll put up with him as long as he satisfies, and then the mediacorps will drop him from the headlines. Leave those people to Ben Affleck and hold on to the Cheadle's for what they are. Flat out: this little corner of the earth is already getting crowded, we don't need every **** and Tom to know where its at. In addition to your local tabloid/broadleaf Arts section you should read more of your city's "weekly" - for arts, movies etc. Here you'll find some self-describedly "enlightened" viewpoints. In these circles Don Cheadle is a cult-favorite if not pseudo-icon: Boogie Nights is a cult classic, Taffic IS a classic. My point is that you shouldn't be too worried about underratedness. Who cares? Most actors are happy just being good actors. Don't worry about their paychecks for them. Plus stuff is so much cooler if only "we" know about it. If you really love you girlfriend maybe introduce her to Don Cheadle's back catalogue and while your at it, explain stuff like why Eyes Wide Shut was a great movie. But draw the line there. Loved ones are really the only that we need care about in these scarce times. Let the cultural aristocrat inside you thrive wild! ps By the way, I really liked Ben Affleck in Good Will Hunting. Plus he wrote the damn thing - c'mon the title alone is SO clever .

I disagree - she's not underrated. She's incredibly overrated, if anything.

I would say Sofia Coppola is overrated, but only because she made a C= film in a year of F films, so the bell curve swung her way, and I will admit that I think Afflect is capable of good performances, just none outside of Dazed and Confused and Chasing Amy

What about Michael Madsen?. I think he's very underrated. Take a look at his peformance in "Resevoir dogs" or " Kill bill vol 2".
Let's make some art!
