Question:
I was wondering who people thought the most under-rated actor or actress was. Personally, I think Steve Buscemi is a good actor who ends up with smaller roles. But then again, their aren't many roles that dude could play without him turning it into a horror movie. That dude is freaky. Anyways, most under-rated actor/actress?

I don't know if he's underated or not, but I think Phillip Seymour Hoffman does a good job in anything he's in.

For anyone who's seen "American Psycho," they know it's Christian Bale. Unfortunatley, now all people will know him as is the new Batman.

i'm gonna say Ray Liotta, even though he's in tons of movies (and is good in almost all of them) not many people know his name really.

he was good in Swing Kids and in Empire of the Sun.

Talk about under-rated. Ray Liotta, completely forgot about him. I'm still sticking with Buscemi though.

Most who answered this poll so far have listed actors who are not underrated, just underrecognized.

"Underrated" specifically means that many people think they are not good, when they are in fact capable of decent performances. Example - Tom Cruise. Jim Carrey used to be seen this way until "The Truman Show," "The Majestic," "ESotSM" etc.

Oh well. The topic just became too hard for me!

He was good in the Newsies. I love that film!

i forgot about newsies, that was a pretty good movie, despite being disney, and a musical. christian bail was good in it though. he was also in little women, lol.

I don't think Leonardo Di Caprio is as bad as everyone says he is. I thought he was pretty good in The Aviator.

our time would be better spent talking about over rated actors, sadly a couple of them have been wrongfully mentioned as underated.

I obviously didn't think about what my actor of choice was before I posted this thread because I've just been usurped in my belief. Screw Buscemi, Don Cheadle is the man. Anyone see Hotel Rwanda?

Please elaborate how Don Cheadle is underrated. He was great in Hotel Rwanda, and received plenty of recognition. Again, you (in the general sense) don't seem to understand what "underrated" means. It specifically means an actor who is viewed as less capable than they actually are, NOT an actor who people largely recognize as skilled but is not on the A-list. Don Cheadle, Buscemi, etc. don't fall into the category of "underrated." Maybe "underrecognized," but that's different.

Actors are underrated as a result of being under-recognized.
