On this past week's "On The Lot", alot of films were shown. Some were good. Some were absolutely horrible. (Kenny I'm looking at you)

I'm really impressed with some of the filmmaker's on the show. It's just too bad they took the blueprint for American Idol and replicated it to the "I".

I have to go with Danger Zone. That single continuous shot with all the action going on in it is something to behold.

Zach seems to like those single continuous shot a bit too much. When you have one shot, you can't screw yourself with editing mistake.

That show is on the verge of cancellation...they just took it from three hours on two days to one hour once a week, and are replacing it with reruns of "House," "Hell's Kitchen," and "Family Guy."

What a shame. It could have been so beautiful.

I thought that one was kinda lame. The idea was cool, but the overall lighting and look wasn't very good, and he spends too much goddamn time on his special effects.

It really, really could have. It's disappointing.

I think the shows only hope is that Ratner comes back and starts giving some critiques that are worth a ****. I really dislike his work, but I've read a lot of interviews with him for some reason and the guy knows film.

I really thought the look was decent, but I do actually agree that the visual effects were kind of unnecessary. I actually thought his effects really pushed the 24 hour project forward in a good direction. But in this case, it seemed to be effect for the sake of it.

Nevertheless, the single shot was the most impressive thing I saw all night I think. I liked the ambition.

That stinks about it being almost cancelled. My problem is the judges are too nice. They're blowing too much smoke up their arses. They need a "Simon" - someone to rip into them and give them constructive criticism.

Hey y'all.

Just watched the episode where they showed the first round of films online on the show's website. I have to say I was utterly unimpressed with the films...makes me feel good about going off to film school. The filmmakers definitely had quick access to money, equipment and actors, and definitely there's some technical skill, but I don't want to see any of the films again.

The judges are so so soft on everyone. It's hard to get excited about judges who are looking basically for a "beginning, middle and end"!

It would've been cool for the show to go forward nonetheless...

i don't understand why fellow filmmakers aren't supporting the show. i love it. my fav was by far lucky penny.

Well - every good film and every good story needs a beginning, middle, and end - so it's good that they stress that. It's not good that they're too easy on them and don't find something bad (and good) about everyone's film.

Hey Chris,

I totally agree with you that every good story definitely needs a beginning, middle and end. But the judges responses make me feel like that if a story has that they are satisfied. Maybe I'm being a bit hard on the films as they were definitely well constructed...

I totally agree with you! I know it's basically American Idol with filmmakers, but at least it's dealing with filmmakers! Seeing as how it's the only filmmaking related show right now, it's good enough.

To be honest, I think it's very entertaining, which is exactly what they were going for. I don't watch American Idol except for the first few episodes (the tryouts) and the last few episodes where there's 3 or 4 people left.

Yes I agree - the judges were way too easy on people. This is in contrast to my experience in Hollywood where NO ONE is easy on you.

i liked Danger Zone but the majority we were weakand isn't it nice how they formatted the show so there's no actual filmmaking...they show the film & then there's voting. Weak. Although it is sad that the girls are dropping like flies.

I think that once they vote off more people, they'll have time to show more of the process of making the films.

Danger Zone was over rated. so what if it was one continuous shot. The story was pretty lame compared to some of the others and story is definitely more important than the fact that it's 1 shot and has special fx

WHY DOES THIS SHOW HURT SO MUCH? It embarrasses me to admit I'm studying film now.

If we're talking films longer than a minute, then I'd definitely agree. However, in this case, I don't know if that's necessarily true. I thought the story of Danger Zone was as much of a story he needed to tell for a one minute assignment and it allowed him to focus on other aspects of filmmaking that may be more appealing in a 60 second time period.

i think the problem is that filmmakers have too big of ego's and can't respect other people's admirations and abilities. if anything people should be watching because it's the same industry or at least because they think they can do it better. oh well.
