Ok, so here's the real deal.....

So at Sundance there was a film (btw I'm a composer not a director) that was shot on DV with a $3,000 camera, the film was made very inexpensively. I can't tell you the exact price but it was well below 500k (well). This film was picked up by ____ _____ for around 4 mil. The DV will be transferred to film...

Why did it get picked up you ask? Because it is a phenomenal "STORY" (i.e. go write a good script before you even think of turning on a camera)...

I see so many younger "film makers" that really have no clue what this is all about. Talking
about "I'm gonna be submitting to Sundance etc.". Let me tell you, the reason anything get
picked up is because first of all the "SCRIPT/STORY" is amazing....

So where does this leave you?

1) Write an amazing script. Period! (that is your ticket to Hollywood, trust me)

2) Don't ruin this amazing script when you shoot it. plan, plan, plan..... If you think you are gonna have anything "real" happen with your so called "film" that you shot in one day with no script you're high....

Just the real deal for people that are really serious about this "film making" thing. You can do it, but it's gonna cost more than $100 and it's gonna take some serious strategy, planing, and above all else "A GREAT SCRIPT". Have I made that point yet? Big Grin

Think script, script script.....

Not shot, shot, shot??????

****Make sure you have an idea (i.e. script) that's even worth shooting in the first place? You follow?

This is hard talk but it's reality guys..... if you want 'anyone' in Hollywood to take you seriously follow my advice.......

Good Luck! I mean that.....

Hollywood has millions of directors, the only way that you can basically start off is write the movie as well as direct it.

Yeah sure, write and direct it. But why stop there. Produce it, edit it, design costumes, draw storyboards, make the coffee-
Go the whole shabooley!

...Is that a word?

I must disagree with the statement that you have to start off writing and directing.

I found that I can't write for toffee ... check out "Night to Remember" if you don't believe me.

However, the lead actor in said film has forsaken acting for writing and he's actually really good at it. He also stayed my friend after he saw the film too.

Basically, you can form creative partnerships with others ... compliment your skills and just maybe you'll make it.

I love writing scripts. It's fun. Directing is a ***** though. Organization = Ultimate Evil. Well... actually I still have to find actors, but ANYWAY.

The way I do it, I just write a bunch of scripts then choose the best/easiest to do.
