Ok listen... Im in film study class in highschool and we finally get to do something fun... make a movie...

I got my script and i read it over and its a play called Nursery Crimes... theres three actors... Me(A detective) some girl who plays a sexy lady who i talk to and this one kid whos gonna play a gangster who i think killed the guy.....

Theres basically suppose to be one set in the movie and its all of us meet up in a bar... but i was thinkin maybe it would be cool to film it infront of a green screen and and add a background of like a ally or the front of a old cornerstore... i was also thinkin of adding fake rain from adobe after effects 6.5 and having the lady holding a umbrella and then make it the widescreen effect in black in white...

I was wondering if anyone thinks this is a good idea what im doing.. because i really need a good grade in this class i have a 35% right now and if i dont pass this i dont graduate Frown

Also does anyone anyone have pictures of old allys from like the 30's or pictures of like old streets and corner stores i could use...? Or any old sounding free royalty music...

Thanks please help me out...

the greenscreen could look terrible and ruin the whole thing (as could the rain) if its not done perfectly. i'd suggest doing a few tests and seeing how you like it. the B&W could be neat, but you need super harsh, high contrast lighting, or else it looks stupid when you convert it. you can, of course, adjust the levels in post after converting, which is almost as good, maybe better if your camera can't preview it with a B&W filter.

Don't try to find old pictures either, becuse they most likely won't be very good quality.I'd say your best bet would be to go and take some b&w pictures of cool old looking places, but thenagain you may as well just go and shoot there.

With black and white work you realy should revert to 3 point lighting. It is the situation 3 point works best in. Use realy strong backlighting because you wont be able to use colour tones for seperation

What equipment do you have? If you just have a carppy DV cam with no lights then dont even think about it. ANd if you have a 35 in the class I have to think there are some techincal problems. Dont try and use special effects to give you a good grade, in most cases you are goign tohave a worse product. SPFX dont make a bad film good (they can make one worse). Find a cool location, reherse your actors, do some interesting things with the camear, etc. KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid.

the footage looks alright. You can definately tell its greenscreen, and it is kind of destracting. IT would look much better to just film in that location, or an alley, like others have said. The BW part is a little on the gray side, you'll probobly want to go with the other lighting suggestions to give it a better contrast. Every film class i've ever been in has been an easy A. (My school only offers a minor in it so its by no means professional) But most students turn in such low quality projects, that pretty much anything you do that has any sort of a story and editing will get an A.

Yeah, I'm going with Particleman on this. I've seen worse projects get good grades in college. It all depends on your teacher, if he's a cool guy and not too much of a hard *** that footage will look fine and might even impress him. Here's an alley I found on a Google Image search.

For the rain, you don't have to create it at all. TryDetonation Films. It's has really good stock footage of realy rain in front of black that you can just key out.
