I've noticed that there really aren't that many discussions about animation on this site, so I just wanted to create a general forum about animation on this site...

The two aspects I'm most interested in talking about are Animation Schools and the movies themselves...CalArts is the main school that's appeared when I've researched animation schools, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

And when I'm talking about movies I mean Anime too. Hayao Miyazaki is amazing (I know he's been discussed before) but I've still only seen three of his movies (working on that). As far as the rest of my animated library goes it mainly consists of the old Disney classics and the newer Pixar films...What other good animation movies are out there?

SCAD seems to have a really solid animation program, I was planning on going there, but I chickened out Smile

Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride are beyond amazing,
and I did see an interesting animated film recently called The Triplets Of Belleville.

Hmm I've never been to Georgia...the pictures on SCAD's website look are beautiful...

and I can't believe I forgot Tim Burton's films...his are always on the top of my favorite list...

Was Triplets of Belleville good? One of it's songs was up for an Oscar a few years ago, but it was the same year LOTR the Return of the King was up for all of its Oscars, so it didn't have a chance...

is there anyone else on this site who are huge fans of the Pixar movies?

I found a slightly old forum about the incredibles and I wanted to know what everyone thought of the two newer movies, Cars and Ratatouille...

I really love Cars and Finding Nemo, but what about everyone else?

Pixar is mildly entertaining

http://youtube.com/watch?v=anu2IrsUlVs

but as they say in that awe-inspiring trailer for Paprika, "this is evidence that Japanese animators are reaching for the moon while most of their American counterparts remain stuck in the kiddie sandbox"

They are really taking it to the next level...way beyond and much more than the cheap laughs and "lovable " characters of Pixar.

Wow. I am watching Paprika for the first time as I write this...I must say it is amazing, and probably even better than Spirited Away. Wow. Just wow.

You should check out "jan Svankmajer" and also "Brothers Quay" - they work with dolls and claymation... You can find examples at youtube. Also check out one of Tim Burtons first films "Vincent" - you can find that one at youtube too...
