If you can shoot, edit, and master to a quality vhs/dvd-r with relative confidence, I'd charge four hundy for a single camera gig, but try to sell a two camera shoot for 200 more (more than doubles the quality). After you do your first one, if you're crazy enough to want to do more wedding videos, and you have the proper equipment (wireless mics, pro lights, etc) you can double your initial price (you can show anyone the first wedding video as an example). If your first one sucked or the couple was ugly (hey, it's bad as a demo), do another half price wedding video.
I try not to do wedding videos (because it makes me homicidal), but when I have, I charge 300-500 for the shoot and 600-1000 for the edit/DVD authoring, then after the first 4 copies, 25 bucks a copy. There are many tricks and techniques for shooting weddings--and weddings aren't a place you can experiment around (because it's a once in a life event for someone). If you can work with an experienced videographer, it'll benefit you immensely.
I'll throw you a wedding tip: When shooting the ceremony single camera, position the camera on the groom's side of the venue so you can fully see the bride, not just the side of her face. It's always more important to see the bride.
... and Bspeed, make sure you and your friend knows what is at stake. You could shoot it home videoish (i.e., at the reception you have a drink in one hand and the camera in the other) and just hand them the tape afterwards. Or, you could do it more professionally, where you meet with the dj, minister, show up to the rehearsal, hire a second camera, DON'T DRINK at the reception, and spend 6-15 hours editing it, give them a rough draft, and then make revisions. Be clear on what the expectations are for both you and your friend.

A friend of mine works for a company and for the WEDDING and RECEPTION the price starts at 1200.. Now this is professional, for freelance videographers you can charge whatever u want, but much less then that. Cause that is with 2 or more cameras and editing and dvds made up and such.. hope that helps

good call on keeping a clear communication on the expectations
i can edit it and get on vhs easily, and have 2 cameras. lights might be an option, but i dont own any so i'd have to borrow them from campus along with the mics.
i'll have to clear that up with him, thanks for the suggestions: helped a lot
