Picture of Aimee Friedland
Posted
Hi, my name's Aimee Friedland and I am an aspiring writer. Lately I have taken great interest in filmmaking, and, in particular, screenwriting. As my, little, knowledge of writing lies in the 'short stories' and 'academic' realms, would anyone be so kind as to offer some "useful" links which would be beneficial for an amateur like me?

Thanks

This is how I learned format. Not a lot to it, nor do many actors or crew care that much for proper format. A well versed crew will probably have seen lots of different styles, not all of them even the traditional "screenplay" in them. The story is much more important.

I'd be happy to look over anything, or help if you have specific questions: dd57058@appstate.edu

If it's format you're not sure about, I'd definitely recommend downloading Celtx. It's free and incredibly easy and does a great job of formatting properly. Here's the link: http://celtx.com/

Celtx has been out for at least a year or so...and I have been a loyal user ever since.

Im surprised you haven't heard of it...several topics have been dedicated to Celtx over the past few months if I remember correctly. Anyway, its pretty much amazing.

Yeah, it's been around for a while. I've been using it for a year or two and have never understood why people choose to buy expensive formatting software when celtx is around.

Here is a great article covering several of the screenwriting seminar gurus. This article compares their viewpoints on story structure and will give you great ideas for your scripts.
