Like what? Talking about "Roger and Me"? Or "Bowling for Columbine"? If so, I believe it is important to show what is "really" going on in Capitalist America.

As for narrative films that are anti American...sorry can't even think of any right now off the tope of my head, but I believe that in most cases that these film makers are trying to show reality! And I give all due respect for people who stand up for what they believe, even if I don't agree with it.

In most cases I've found that movies like "Born on the 4th of July", "American History X"," Platoon"(spelling of that ekkk) and many more, tell a true story that in some ways made the United States look bad...but oh well, the United States is bad, but it's also very good in many ways. There is no such thing as a perfect country, and it's (in my opinion) very okay to show the negative aspects of your own or others countries. I mean...films can act as our history, and it is the duty of our history to teach us what "not" to do in the future...we learn from our mistakes.

Now what good does it due to tell ourselves and our youth that Thanksgiving was a joyous occasion between the Pilgrims and the "Indians"? Not very informing at all, instead we need books and films like "The Crucible" which really show what early American "evil protestant" life was like...not this fairy tale BS we learn about in our sad but withstanding K-12 system. And...that's all I got to say...

Besides filming, the only other thing I ever did good was filming.

I completely agree with The Mind; i think that Oliver Stone is probably the most American Filmmaker ever; he lived through one of the most dificult periods in our history and took part in one the most terrible wars, and yet, I feel, he still loves America very much.
While other "patriotic" try to overlook America's hard times, Stone placed a giant spotlight on them. And, think about it, can you truly love something without knowing every aspect of it, good or bad? Is it really loving something if you only know the good parts of it?

to say the truth i think it is the combination of good and bad in america that has inspired my first film. as a canadian looking from the outside i guess ive had some assumption that most try to turn their backs on the us's bad times. perhaps this is very incorrect on my part. i guessed i only asked to see how americans felt about films that show a very negative side. perhaps the greatest anti american films are made by americans themselves (hence stone and moore).

I'm not quite sure if the average American feels the way I do. I've noticed in the past month with the War going on that if you even mention anti war thoughts in America, you all the sudden are anti American. People here, for the most part, even in left wing Seattle Washington, feel that the if you support the war then you support your country. Americans don't like to hear that maybe what we are doing over there is wrong, so they turn their heads towards ignorance.

I for one support my troops but not my president. I respect that they put their lifes on the line. I feel that I'm still very American though and love my country because I understand its potentials...which as of right now, are not being executed.

So as far as your first film goes)I'm not sure of the story line) keep in mind that yes indeed most Americans view films like "Do the Right Thing" or "Malcolm X" as lies and extreme "Spike Lee" thoughts.

Besides filming, the only other thing I ever did good was filming.
