You can also burn HD footage to a standard SD DVD. If you have DVD Studio Pro 4 you can set it to burn an HD DVD and it burns I believe like an hour to a regular blank dvd. The only catch is that it plays on HD DVD players or on other Apple computers with Superdrives.
I know there are other methods to getting HD footage like using a PS3. Check out some other forums like DVXuser.com or DVinfo.net for specific workflows if you want to do this.

If you make an "HD DVD" in DVD Studio you can only play it back on a Macs with certain specs. It's not the same encoding as an HD DVD player. You could also get a blue ray burner and burn a blue ray disk.

I hate to contradict you but they will play fine in an HD DVD player. I have burned numerous HD DVDs on a standard 4.7 GB DVD in this fashion and played them on my HD DVD player in HD no problem.
I do want to note that it will only play on a Toshiba HD-DVD player, but that is like 90 percent of the players available.
