I think that some films (Sin City, Mulholland Drive, Donnie Darko, Being John Malkovich, etc) really played a part in changing peoples expectations in what they expect to see in movies.

They may not be the most influential of the last decade, but because of their collective effect you have to admit that films seem to be required to have a certain level of "quirky" or "bizarre" or "complex" now or else the audience is not interested. Generally speaking that is.

That would be an interesting, other list: the most influential films. The problem is, just because a film was influential in no way means it was any good.
