I have just finished the post production stage for a Music Video that I shot a few weeks ago. It is a live clip that was put together from footage of one gig at a local metal spot in Melbourne. The gig lasted about 30 minutes and we shot it on 2 x Cannon XH A1 and a Cannon XL H1, so I had about 1.5 hours of footage to play with.

I was pleasantly surprised with how well the footage turned out with the poor lighting at the venue. I was a stresspot on the day of filming because everything that could go wrong did. Our location survey was cancelled, the sound check was more of a line check (meaning they didn't run through any of the songs) and I began to worry when I saw the crowd and lack of security (close to $20k worth of equipment getting ruined didn't sit well with me!)

Everything turned out quite well though. Security did rock up, the band managed to pull off an awesome performance and we headed down to the venue a good 4 to 5 hours early for bump in, giving me and the crew time to explore our surroundings.

The band never gave me any real idea for how they wanted the clip to look besides the fact that they are all big horror film fans. The creative control was left in my hands but they did want it to look different to a traditional live 3 camera shoot.

We have loaded the clip just on myspace and are linking all other websites to that video so we can accumulate as large a play counter as possible.

Have a gander and let me know what you think! A word of warning though, the genre is heavy metal (hardcore-ish) so if you aren't a fan of this style, it is probably a good idea not to have your speakers blaring! Hehehe.

The bands name is 'Orchid Ablaze' ( www.myspace.com/orchidablaze )

Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the comments Evan. I can't wait to post my 'studio' clip so I can get people to compare the different styles and approaches I chose, and give me feed back on which worked and which didn't.

Sometimes looking back at your own work it is hard to tell so I appreciate the feedback... even if it is negative feedback if it happens, hehehe.
