My cousin wants me to film her wedding this upcoming summer. She knew that I went to film camp, and thought it would be cool, blah blah blah... I haven't seen where the wedding will be held yet, but just picture any old church. The only thing she wants is the entrances of all the important people, the vows, the I-do's, and the smooch.
THe problem is that the closest I can get the camera is the balcony. I need to be able to hear what the bride, groom, and preacher are saying in somewhat of a decent manner.
I can't really afford to buy any sound system, but I think I can rent, right? Anyway, I was thinking something along the lines of a body mic, or some other long-distance, remote mic that can go back to the camera.
If you have any ideas other than mine, let me know please!
definitely think about investing in (or renting) a good shotgun microphone. I used a Sennheiser ME66 for weddings and it works fantastic.
EDIT: otherwise, think about renting a good wireless system, that works just as good (but there's always the risk of feedback problems depending on how many interfering signals there might be in, or around the area)
I would see if the venue or dj (if they're providing a PA sys for the event) if they plan on micing the groom/minister. Then see if you can plug into their system. Even if you have a tape recorder or another camera that you can plug into the PA or hide up closer to the action, that would work great. Ask your cousin to give you the contact info and call them directly.
Otherwise, go to a musical store (most rent also), and try and get a wireless lav for cheap.
