How dumb, how simply dumb.

I need a spider for a film (which would be my second film), and to just go out today to look for it and searching for location too shoot just generally felt good.

There are people that just like to watch movies, and that makes them think they like to make them. But of course, those activities are completely different.

What things in the process of making a movie do you enjoy? The simple things, the complicate one...

I like playing with angles - I really mean that. You might think you know what angle you want going in (storyboards!), but it's interesting how the slightest change in elevation or angle can alter the dynamic of a shot. Thos minutae really interest me.

I do not, however, like making films with high school students. Failed projects abound...

Are there stories about that? (I'd put a "lol" here, but I'm not sure it's legal)

Stories about my failed projects? Why yes, there are stories, if that's what you meant...

I am guilty of failed projects in high school, but I was still learning a lot about what worked and what didn't.

I love the actual filming process. Having everyone there and capturing the shot. Whether it be dialogue or action I have a blast.

Interesting...Im not really a fan of being on set at all. However my real passion is making preparations for those shoots. Securing locations, building set pieces, rehearsing scenes the day before the shoot, going over storyboards with the operator, and all those other pre-production tasks are what I thrive on! Thats probably why I'm working towards a career in pre-vis.

Editing can be great too. Not capturing - man, I hate capturing and logging and filing - but just going in and tweaking the cuts ever so subtly...I can spend hours doing that (and have).

There's nothing on earth that I hate more than editing.

Except for perhaps the Yankees.

Agreed! Editing is the main reason I don't make very many films. But if I meet up with a competent editing collaborator...oh how the films will pour forth!

I love rehersals, the first time after auditions and you're hearing the words you wrote and how the actors are interacting. Basically you're seeing if it works or not and making adjustments. I believe this is where a movie succeeds or fails.

I love being on set. The energy is electric, and working with good people who know what they're doing and care about it is so contagiously inspiring. Standing there and seeing my work, and my ideas, in the process of becoming real - whether I'm directing or DPing, is so satisfying. It's addictive.

I love editing too, but only because I'm a nerd and a perfectionist.
