Hello guys,
I've always been interested in moviemaking and the art that is filming. But apart from some school project documentaries I haven't really done that much. So my question is therefore, is there anywhere that a beginner like me can get like a starters guide or something? I mean this site is great but I can't seem to find like a beginners guide to filming. If you could help me with this I would be one of the happiest individuals on this side of the pond.

I would HIGHLY recommend The Filmmaker's Handbook by Steven Ascher/Edward Pincus, as well as Cinematography, Theory and Practice by Blain Brown. You'll find a lot of other people recommending these books as well. They provide basic theory on shooting a film as well as more advanced techniques that you can dive into further down the road.

Yes go to your bookstore and buy a cup of coffee and read the books until you find one that seems the best - and buy that one. Smile

All you'll ever need to know (or at least a lot of it) about editing can be found in Walter Murch's "In The Blink Of An Eye". Great book. Indeed, anything by Murch is generally very good.
