Robert Rodreguiz said "You don't become a filmmaker by wanting to make films. You become a filmmaker by making films"

Get off your *** and start doing something. Find a friend with similar interest. Yall can motivate each other.

My firends and I would probably get nothing done without motivating each other. Just get motivated and DO SOMETHING. That's what we are doing this summer.

thanx but yall arent helping too much. all i do now is film with my friends, but this summer i probly wont see them as much, and i need a way to make money. so i feel i should use the summer to learn while making money... then when school starts back up and im with my friends we will keep on filming. and ill probly use most the summer to write some scripts to film later on.

also i just read rebel without a crew, and i agree with robert rodriguez about how you should just go and make films to learn about them... but he knew a crap load. i had no idea it was soo diferent using film then a digital camera, i need to learn how to do this stuff, cause doing what im doing obviously is alot different from what ill have to do to make a movie one day.

and whoever said try to get on a film set, how should i go about that?

Where do you live? Most if not all states will have a state run film board . Find them and talk to them. If you are near a big city its even easier. Check craigslist and other classifieds. But if you dont know anything you are going to have to beg to get on set to work for FREE, and that will even take some luck. Dont expect to get paid for a few years. Also - read read read. Here are my suggestions. You could spend all summer inside reading these and it wouldnt be a bad idea (although youll learn a ton being on a set)

General/Techincal:

Digital Video by Pete Shaner and Gerald Jones
The five Cs of Cinematography by Joseph Macelli
Painting with light by john alton
Masters of Light by Denis Schaeft and Larrry Salvato
The visual Story by Bruce Block
Biographies of film makers:

Making Movies by Sidney Lumet
Rebel without a crew by Robert Rodriquez
Something like an autobiography by Akira Kurosawa

Script writing:
Screenplay by Syd Field
Writing Great Characters by Michael Halperin
Making a good script great by Linda Seger
Story by Robert McKes

Directing:

Directings Actors by Judith Weston
Film Directos Intuition by Judith Weston

also, sign up for net flix and watch at least 5 new movies a week, starting with the silient films of the early 1900s and work your way up through americna, european and asian cinema
