Hello colleges, I am making documentary (for my exam) about gypsies that are deported from west. They are now organized a hip hop ‘school’ so they could break a stereotypes about gypsies as a tiff, shoes cleaners… I was facined with store because, they decided to ‘fight’ for there right with the dance not with guns… The only thing that is problem is that I am editor not director. So I do not now much about directing (how to prepare for the story, scenario, how to analyze it, where to find drama, ‘how to ‘speak’ with person that you are making documentary... ). Is there any web site about ‘How to make documentary’, or book? If is not a problem, please give me some tips for it.
One more thing where and how to search money for film. I just need 2000 euros for 16 mm track.
Thankful,
MouseD

there's plenty of ways to get money... but usually organizations wont give you **** unless you have **** to show them to prove you're worth it.
for my last film i called everyone i knew and asked for "investments" (they should be called donations because you KNOW they wont get their money back), then i called everyone they knew, and then i asked people i didn't know. it took 6 months and a lot of agony but i got the 50 grand i needed.
now im about to enter post and its gonna rock.

yeah 16mm would be heavy and a pain, then u have to develop...then wait. Then the fed-ex guy comes, but your not home, so u have to drive out there to pick your footage up. U then find there closed so u have to wait again. Id just go with DV.

Thanks for answering everyone! Is there any "recipe" how to approach to them? I have “CV background”. It is not big one but it could help me. Documentary that I was edited was nominated for award, and I worked 2 short animations (video stings – I think you are calling like that) for MTV? And some short films…
My theme is, I think, very imported: The integration of Gipsy in society. And maybe some non-government organization could help me. I do not need more than 4000e. Just fore 16mm film, maybe fore camera (16mm).
Thanks

I am not beginner I have already worked with 16mm film. Nothing could change 16mm schmekt. Especially when you are working social theme.
Thanks

I work in Canada and we have tons of grants to apply for (http://www.studiostar.ca/filmfunding.html) for making films.
I'm sure there's some you can apply for in Europe. Ask one of the directors/producers of the films you've worked on, or go door to door and earn money on your own (then you don't have to stick to any rules).
