Hey I've been thinking about making some short videos, from clips to small trailers...

i'm planning to buy a DVcamera, but it will be awhile. is it possible that i can use my dad's old VCR CANON camera? It's good quality, but it can only record to VCR.

Is there a way that i can transfer it from the Canon Camera to the computer?

Any other recommendations?

I'm sure there is, but I don't know which programs do that. You have to find an editing program that captures and edits ANALOG video.

I'm sorry, but I don't know which ones do that.

Good luck.

Most programs do, you just need the right digital to analog convertor theres one called a Matrox RT something or other and Mac sells one on their website, but with the $100 to $400 dollars you would spend on this you could either get a good Hi8 camera or a used or older model DV camera.

Well, Im not sure how we do it at our school (Were almost fully converted over to digital). But if you want to, I think you might be able to get a VCR with S-Video going into like a Switchbox going into say a computer. You could buy a DV Camera for under $500

Use ATI All In Wonder. I love it. You must have a fast computer though.

i recommend the pinnscle DV500 plus capture card ($460 from journeyed.com). With this, you can easily attach a vcr or camera to put your footage on your computer:

"All Systems Go
From the start to the finish line, DV500 DVD gives you complete flexibility. Mix footage from analog or digital sources. Author and burn your own video CD or DVD, complete with interactive menus, with the included authoring and encoding software. Output to analog or digital tape or create a streaming file for instant posting to the Web." (from Journeyed.com)
