Oh, I'm not denying that. Well, they could have just used stuff lying around at home. I mean, I have a Han Solo outfit, I just don't ware it out unless it's the police man's ball.
My stupidity aside... you have to admit that the pic of the explosion, and the lighting looks to high res for the film they were using. And that was my problem, they hadn't properly colour correct the effects to fit the overall grainyness of the film.

Hey, I know those guys!! Very noce, very cool, and very talented I might add. They have been working on that thing forever. some serious costumes and location stuff. A large portion was shot during a film fest there, deep in some pretty intense caves so, lighting options were limited. But over all the went all out. Check out some of there other stuff. Market 175 is great too. R. Michael

yeah, i hear you there JW. fan films can go either way. horrid or awesome, when they're horrid they might as well be fan films, when they're awesome i always feel like "jeesh, why'd they make a fan film? they could be going nuts and winning festivals, and getting distribution with this thing!"

Funny you should say that JW, because the Linn brothers said the same thing. Then they read an article about how popular fan films had become, and how some had even gotten film makers real sit downs with studios. (A good example is Sandy Collara and his "Batman: Dead End" Fan film. He sold his car to get the $35,000 necessary to opull that off with no chance of return on the film. It got him some serious interest from several studios and when I last spoke with him he was looking to do a big budget remake of "The Creature From The Black Lagoon")
HOTR Has already gotten them a good bit of exposure, as well as Market 175 (Panasonic and about 30 other film and video publications ran their press release regarding shooting the movie on the DVX) They cant ever make money directly on the film, but with such a huge fan base it can create quite a large buzz. I agree with JW. It doesn't take much to make a fan film into an original script anyway. My friend was insistant on making a Star Wars fan film, which you really can't do anything with. However, a few changes, throw it into modern day, add some other stuff, remove some names, change some costumes, and he had (what appeared to be) a completely original movie. He never shot it anyway, but he could've.
I can see the point about it making a large buzz, but I could also see it pissing people off since most of the times fan films don't have permission to use the material they're hitting on. I dunno, maybe I'm far from the mark, but I don't get fan films.
Originality baby...originality.

Wow, so many critics in this little forum, I forgot how "smart" everyone was around here...well I guess you can have your own opinion, with all your film under your belts and everything....*cough*
I love the idea of going after a big project or idea with little money. You should see the set designs they have..OMG...crazy! They are going to great lengths to make this FAN FILM one to remember. Fan Films are for the fans not the critics.

I don't think anyone makes a film for the critics. And I don't think having an opinion on fan films has anything to do with criticizing it. Why is it always criticizing when it's percieved as bad? Aren't you giving us your own criticism of thinking it's good?
And Lucas does like the fan films, but after the Stormtrooper spoof of the COPS tv show got popular and got those guys a job, everyone stated harassing him so he keeps it more low-key as to how he responds to them.
