Hi there,

I am currently doing an article for homework (media class) on the New Zealand film industry, and how it has changed over the years. I'm interested to get comments and views from people in other countries. Please leave your first and last name, and your country on your post.

Anyway, basically I was just wondering a few things:

1) Did you ever think about the NZ film industry, or NZ at all before The Lord of the Rings trilogy?

2) What are your thoughts on the industry? (if any).

3) Have you considered shooting a film in New Zealand?

That's it for now. Please feel free to add anything else. I will edit this if I have any further questions.

Thanks!

-Chris

Thanks. Could you, and others who reply please either PM me their first and last names (if you dont want to release it publically for some reason) or add it to your post? It's so I can quote you in my article.

Thanks,

-Chris

1) I've always considered new zealand a beautiful place where i have always wanted to film. The Lord of the Rings just proved to me why.

2) Like the australian industry, i find the new zealand industry to be reliant on offshore products, producing very little of its own high quality products, maybe this is to do with the population size, or just the general attitudes of local audiences.

3) I would definitely consider filming in new zealand, good crews, great locations, if i had the money, and a script that suited, why not?

I dunno if this will help you or not, but there is a movie called Cinema of Unease by Sam Neill (the actor), and its all about the NZ film industry, its a documentary, really pretty interesting.

Not sure if your assesment has been done already or not, but anyway -

I knew basically nothing about the NZ Film Industry, and didn't really even know we had one before LOTR, however after the first LOTR's movie I got hooked on making films etc... and ever since then I have been making them. And I've of course shot short films here because I live here, and I don't have big budgets - and even if I did, I think our country has some awesome scenery that looks great on screen.

1) Several TV shows from the mid to late 90's were filmed in NZ

2) NZ looks like a great place to shoot because of the open spaces you can use

3) I would love to shoot overseas but Scotland or Ireland would probably be first and second with NZ and Australia close behind
