hi guys... and by the way... thanks for the advice.. its a load of help... what i was goin to ask was... do any of you get your stuff copyrighted? i'm thinkin about starting a new project to turn into a film festival sometime next year... and that just occured to me... also... i'm using a cheap sony digital camcorder... where do you get all the "good" cameras at? and also... where do you get most of your sound effects..

The US copyright law says that ANYTHING you create is copyrighted from the moment you make it. You are legally entitled to put a copyright notice to such effect on everything you do. Something like © John Smith 2005 will do.

To get it registered (which helps you protect your copyright in the event of infringement you need to do more, but I've never done that. You can also register your screenplay with the Screenwriter's Guild (I think)

I have registered two of my scripts (one feature length, one 20 page short) with the Writers Guild of America (www.wga.org) it's only $20 for each work you submit, or $10 if you're a member. Definitely think about doing that if you've got a good script and don't want it stolen, because a poor man's copyright (despite popular belief) will not hold up in court very well.

If im in canada who do I register my screenplay with. Is there a canadian version of the screenwriters guild or anything like that?
