So, Ok here's my question.

Where do you begin? I don't mind working from the ground up, starting as a PA etc... But Where the hell do I start. I've been scouring the web for info on production studios in my area who could give me work. or maybe other startup small companies looking to hire fresh talent. Where do you begin it's so overwhelming.

Where are you located?

Send your resumes to every production company that you can find. Someone will bite.

If you want to be a PA for free there are plenty of film companies that would love to use you. What you need to do is find out what films are gonna be shooting in your area. Hollywood Reporter or your local film commision web sites are your best bets. Get ahold of those companies and beg them. This works especially well for indie films since usually x men 2 or pearlharbor usually have millions of people trying to PA.

Hope this help.

People will tell you NO NO NO NO... but then after a thousand rejections someone is gonna go out on a limb for you and give you a chance. Once you get that far you can't dissapoint them you work your little back side off because this buisness is all about networking... you may meet someone who knows of another job after you finish PAing for one person. And if you are the best PA there, word will get around and you have a name for yourself started... Good luck!!

Dare to be diffrent... dont give in to the "norm"

Contact your local, or state film commision, and ask them. They should know who (if any) are shooting in your area. Find out where, go there, hang around. TYalk to crew, say you wanna "help, and learn." I have never heard of a shoot turnng down free help, and if your dedicated, and a quick learner, you have a good shot at getting hired next time, or the time after. If their in your area, they will appreciate your extra hands.

I live in Miami, FL.

I never thought of just GOING there and trying to ask to hang out on set and try to learn and help.

Anyway What are some good resources That I might find what is shooting in my area?

I've worked on a few student films and want to take a step up to profesisonal work like indies or maybe even some mainstream shoots.

Thanks for the replys

If you live in Miami, then there is plenty going on. (I live in West PPalm, and alot of my work is out of, or in MIami) Contact the Miami film commission.(Film Miami) and tell them you are a film student who wants to intern/volunteer on some shoots. They should be able to hook you up with a production, or, at the very least, let you know what might be going on.
Then, go down there, and hang out. Talk to people (this is important in this bizz, period. I have a friend that has more jobs, and connections then he knows what to do with, because he has such an outgoing personality.) Be passionate, and others will want you around. Good luck.
