Hey all,
So... one day down, two to go. We started yesterday with a brisk 13 hour shoot. A nice sized crew I must say. It ws nice to be the At Director, and just worry about the art department.
Anyway, the town we shot in is amazingly supportive. They gave us free reign of the police station, as well as providing 4 police cars, 6 officers, and an ambulance and crew for our shoot last night. It was great. Police cars lined up in front of this store were a guy was killed (more on that in a sec) police tape, ambulance, the whole 9. They even provided our detective actors with an un marked police car, complete with strobing head, and tail lights.
But the real fun was earlier that day. At the last minute we got John Patterson to come in as prop master. He was the fire arm provider for "Bad Boys" "True Lies" and "Bad Boys 2" (among others) The night before the shoot I told the director, "See if he'll bring blanks." He said, "Why?". "What do you mean 'why?' So we can shoot someone, thats why! Its in the script. It would look great in the trailer! See if he'll bring em." So, yesterday, we executed an old man in a convienience store. IT WAS AWESOME! He was using full loads! I shot BTS and sat next to the camera (low angle, by a counter where the old man was lying) Even with earplugs it was LOUD. Great fun though, and John is a very cool guy. He had some great stories about James Cameron, and Michael Bay.
My only complaint is that the D.P. is "pro mist" happy. Everything has that soft feel, even though there are some hard things going on in front of the camera. Oh well, well worry about that when we see the finished product, and before we shoot the feature.
We are on schedule though (knock on wood) and hope to stay there. Wish us luck folks, and I will have grabs for everyone to drool over as soon as humanly possible. Crazy stuff. Tonights an all nighter, and then tommorows hell, so this will prove daunting, but fun.

lol, Your jealous of him and im jealous of you. Damn complaining about having two XL1's were still working on obtaining a GL-2 lol. Well then again our school's TV/FILM department has been in the ****s since we spent 30,000 on two cisco servers that have yet to be barely used.

And on the subject of college equipment, what type of equipment does your school have tizzy?

Well..... mainly DV. 6 Canon XL1-s, 2 Sony 300, 1 digi beta, 1 Beta SP, and 9 editing stations running Avid Xpress DV, 3.0. We have two ariflex 16mm cameras, but their broken now, to be fixed soon I hope. We have 3 Panosonic AG DVX100's (the new true 24p consumer cam) ordered, hopefully arriving soon, and they were interested in getting some 35mm equipment, but are looking to get an HD cam instead.

The trailer though is for a feature, that several faculty members are behind. (Department chair producing, proffesor writting, and directing) and hey, they asked me, a lowly film student, for my script, concept, and directorial, and artistic input. How many film schools can say they made a feature, let alone intergrated student works within it? None, to my knowledge. You can find out more at www.pbcc.edu/filmtv

As of last night (aka: 6:00am this morning) we are wrapped on the trailer. The only hitch was a scummbag D.P., who will not be working with us again. We still got some great footage, and by early next week I should have some stills to post. Ill throw them up as soon as I get them. The only complaint I have about the images, is that this D.P. used pro mist filters to DEATH. I like the soft, romantic look, but not when it a shot of a kid shooting an old man. Whatever, hes gone, and the feature will be better for it.
