Just wanted to take a moment, and thank Brian of student films here. He and two of his buds made the drive up to Jupiter, for the theater showing of "Intersection". Hopefully, they had a good time, and they certainly got their moneys worth. What was the total showing time? Like, almost 4 hours, or something. Anyway, they also got to check out the HI-Def trailer we shot a while back, as we managed to sneek it into the showing. Like I said, hope you had a good time man, and thanks for coming out and supporting me. Now Brian can tell you all what a hack i am, and how my movie sucked, and so on.... Big Grin

I originally posted in regards to Intersection immediately after I arrived back home. It was under my "Tizz's Premiere..." topic heading. I'll cut and paste what wrote though Smile

"Just came back from Jupiter and Tizzy's showcasing of Intersection. Gotta say...it's nice to see that there is good craft and talent being put into short DV narratives And I say this, only because video has and still is having it's name dragged in the mud by so much trash. Sure, with student films being brought into fests by USC, UCLA, FSU, etc., you're going to expect good production value and great looking (film originated) material. But to see material shot on DV that surpasses some of the 16mm and 35mm stuff shown at tonight's showcase...that's something special I think. Great job, Tizzy. from one portly fellow to another =) And good luck on your HD endeavor =)

Brian"

There it is Smile I hope that sufficiently covers how impressed I was with intersection...hehe. I think my point when I wrote all that (at 3am in the morning or something...), was that with University films, you kinda know you're going to end up with a presentable and watchable end product...but the trick is breathing LIFE into an otherwise routine excersize in good production value. None of the 35mm or 16mm flicks struck me as being terribly entertaining or original. Hell, forget "original", cuz face it, NOTHING is original anymore. Everything is an amalgamation of something else. But at least be ENTERTAINING. And that's what Intersection was. Peace for now folks Smile

Wow! Thank you Brian, very kind words indeed. All except the "portly fellow" remark, but I know you meant it in the best way possible, so you take the good with the bad LOL (hell, if the only thing you saw on my end that needed fixing was my weight, im doin ok.)

As for the punches. Yeah, run of the mill chepo SFX werent gonna cut it. The character had a rage that justified a much more brutal sound, so I believe I lifted most of those from "Lethal Weapon 4" The end fight scene, in the rain. Funny, I thought they wouldnt work because of the heavy rain effects over em, but with cutting in right before, and right out after, and a nice little fade at either end, no one seems to notice. Sam Rami lifted tons of film effects for "Evil Dead", and to return the favor, might I suggest the punches from the end scene in "Spiderman" No music, or ambient sound, just bone crushing hits. Very nice.

You can also take some of those cheap hits, put them through sound forge, or the like, mix them togthere or even, with gunshots, drum hits, ect) and get some nice punch FX. Oh, and while were on the subject... if you have counter strike (the "Half life" extension pack) They have a catalog of all their EFX in wave format. Some great stuff. Thanks again, both for the kind words, and for coming out and throwing the support. Cool to hear my "Under $100" budget stood up to the "$28,000+" budgets of some of the University pieces.
