I'm glad this discussion about the purpose of film is reaching such deep levels thanks to the obviously deep and intelligent filmmakers/thinkers on this site.

Hell, I still am, but dammit there's a time and a place, and if you must, there are much more appropriate sites for teens to "relieve" some of that sexual repression.

People, People , people...

If by "purpose".. you also mean "point"...

well... FIlm is ARt....

and Art has no Point...

Art with point is craft.

Film is not made to entertain... but if it does then thats a great plus... FIlm is not made to strike an emotion... but if it does..GREAT...

FIlm IS art... nothing less.. and sometimes more.

Seriously, I feel film is an art form, and art is expression of self. That's what I enjoy, expressing myself--something I think I need to do more often... hmmm, need to fix my editor today.

About the lizzie mcquire thing, it's all good, we're just playin around.

No need to be so serious.

No promises.

As for film as art, I get 4 Kurosawa Dvds in a week from amazon.

Seven Samurai
The Hidden Fortress
Sanjuro
Yojimbo

I've only seen Seven Samurai, but I thought that movie was a real piece of art. Awesome movie. I'll have a better opinion on Kurosawa after I get the Dvds.
